Two held for possessing Rs 46L in new currency

The suburban police arrested two people and seized Rs 46 lakh in new notes of Rs 2,000 denomination from them here on Sunday evening.

According to the police, Santosh Akkishetti, a businessman, and Venkatesh Malali, a medical representative, were heading towards Dharwad from Belagavi on a two-wheeler and were carrying the money in a bag.


Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted the duo on the outskirts of the city. When the duo failed to explain the source of money and produce relevant documents, the police took them into custody. A senior police officer said the Income Tax officials had been informed.
