Two wild elephants enter KU campus, trigger panic

Tension gripped students and teachers after two wild elephants were spotted on the ‘Jnana Sahyadri’ campus of Kuvempu University in Bhadravathi taluk on Sunday night.

According to the university authorities, an elephant was spotted near staff quarters around 6 pm, and a tusker was seen after a short while. A team of forest department officials rushed to the campus. The university campus comes under the purview of Bhadra Wildlife area.

Forest department officials made an announcement via loudspeaker in a jeep instructing staff, students, and people of Shankaraghatta region not to step out between 7 pm and 7 am as two wild elephants strayed into the campus.
