Two women injured in accident

Two women were injured when a stove caught on fire in Ramamurthy Nagar, early on Monday morning.

Rajamma, an 80-year-old women was alone in her home next to the Little Flower School, and was attempting to make coffee when the accident occured. The gas stove, when turned on, caught fire and showered the area around the unit with flames.

 Hearing Rajamma’s cries of alarm, her neighbour, Fatima Mary, rushed to her resuce. Other neighbours also arrived and doused the flames before a fire tender arrived. Inflicted with burns, both Rajamma and Fatima Mary where rushed to Victoria Hospital.

Rajamma, who suffered almost 55 per cent burns is said to be in critical condition. Fatima Mary, who is also the home-owner, suffered 15 per cent burns and is said to be out of danger, according to police.

Police suspect that the gas cylinder had developed a leak, which resulted in the accident.
