U-K food fest back in Mysuru

If you want to enjoy the real taste of Uttara Kannada food, then head towards Uttara Kannada Jilla Samskruthika Sangha (UKJSS) at Kuvempunagar, Mysuru, this weekend.

The Sangha is organising a food festival on December 19 and 20 to spread the rich flavour of traditional food of the region to Mysureans. It is organising the mela for the third consecutive year.  The previous two melas received overwhelming response from Mysureans.

Actor Ramakrishna will inaugurate the food festival  at 5 pm on December 19. MLA M K Somashekhar and MLC Go Madhusudhan will take part in the programme.Besides, cultural events like Bharatanatyam, music will enthrall the audience. Moreover, visitors will also have an opportunity to learn more about the benefits of healthy and organic food habits. Medical professionals will also deliver a series of lectures.

A variety of traditional dishes, like kotte kadabu, kaiyi halu, jilebi, suttevu, batata vada, masala vada, mogekai kadabu, patrode, halbai, bajjis, vanaspathi juices and other food items prepared by professional cooks will be available. The visitors can buy homemade food products. To give the real taste to the participants, the Sangha has roped in professional cooks from Uttara Kannada district.

On the second day, concerts and a lecture on healthy food has been organised  to make the event more meaningful. Youths will perform traditional arts like kolata, yakshagana and music. Ayurvedic College principal Dr Sathyanarayana Bhat will deliver a lecture on ‘Food for Health’.

“Many people from Uttara Kannada reside in the heritage city and they miss food of their region. So, this is an opportunity to enjoy the rich taste and to promote our culture,” UKJSS secretary Tejaswi R Nayak said.
