Taluk Panchayat president Obaleshappa has asked people not to waste water as there is a scarcity of water in the taluk because of insufficient rains. 

He was speaking at the progress review meeting of the taluk panchayat at the panchayat auditorium in Chikkaballapur on Saturday. “Not only people’s representatives but even officers should create awareness among people about the economic use of water,” he said.

“There is an acute shortage of water in more than 38 villages in the taluk. Officers should take necessary steps to solve water problems in each village. Borewells should be sunk and pump sets should be installed for the borewells to provide water for people,” he added.

Power cut

Speaking further he also said that people are facing regular power cuts. “Aside from a water shortage, there is also a lack of supply of power. This has especially struck students, who are preparing for exams, hard. Bescom officers should take immediate action to solve this problems,” he said.

Giving details of the projects taken up by the Panchayat Raj Department, officers said that, “borewells have been drilled and pump sets have been installed in many places.” Bescom officers spoke on reducing power cuts.

“Chikungunya, Malaria and other diseases which spread easily are under control and medicine is available. Vajpayee Arogyashree Scheme has been launched. In addition, the ‘Arogya Mitra’, a helpline has been opened at the Government Hospital and primary health centres,” said officers from Health and Family Welfare Department.

“Additional training has been provided to students writing SSLC examination this year. Three preparatory exams were organised to prepare them for final exams. The Right To Education Act has been implemented,” said officers of Department of Public Instruction.
Taluk Panchayat vice president Bharathi, members Venkatanarayanappa, Manjula, Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer Shashikumar were present on the occasion.
