I B Uttaiah, a native of Kodagu, has brought great prestige and pride to the district by taking charge as the Rear Admiral in the Indian Navy.

Uttaiah is the first Kodava to adore this high position in the Navy.

He was the Commodore at Principal Director of Ship Project in Delhi. So far, four Commodores from the district have served in the rank of Commodore in the Indian Navy. The current position held by Uttaiah is equivalent to that of Major General in the Indian Army.
