Vaishnav creates ripples in inter-services aqua c'ship

Vaishnav Hegde of Puttur, representing the Indian Navy, returned with a rich haul of three gold medals and a silver in the Inter-Services Aquatic Championship held at Vishakhapatnam, recently.

The swimming championship was organised by INS CIRCARS (Eastern Naval Command Headquarters).

A release said that Vaishnav won gold medals in 50m breaststroke (29.3 sec also happened to be a new meet record), 100m breaststroke (1.06.06) and 4x50 metres Medley relay. He won a silver medal in 50 freestyle (24.20 sec).

The Naval team won the team championship this year after a gap of 60 years.

By virtue of good showing in the meet, Vaishnav has qualified for the 72nd Senior National Aquatic Championship, which will be held in Thiruvananthapuram from September 19 to 23.

He will be representing the Services team.

Currently, Vaishnav is being trained in Bengaluru. He was trained earlier by Partha Varanashi and Niroop G R at Balawana Swimming Pool, Puttur. Vaishnav is an old student of St Philomena College Puttur and Sudana Residential School Puttur.
