 Traffic on Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway-48 will be banned for two more days as a gas tanker plunged into a 100-foot pit near Doddatappale in Shiradi Ghat on Monday. 

Movement of vehicles had come to a standstill on the stretch from Sunday morning after a gas tanker fell into a pit near Kappli and gas started leaking from the damaged tanker. A team of 20 officials from Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) had released 18,000 MT of gas from the damaged tanker in an operation that lasted till Monday noon.

In the meanwhile, another gas tanker of HPCL fell into a 100-foot pit near Doddatappale. Sources said that 18,000 MT of gas in the tanker will have to be emptied from the damaged tanker. Vehicles will not be allowed for at least 34 hours on Shiradi Ghat.
