Mangaluru: Mangaluru East Police have registered a case against VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell for issuing provocative statements while giving a call for Dakshina Kannada district bandh, after the murder of Suhas Shetty, in the wee hours of May 2.
Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Anupam Agrawal said that following the bandh call, Mangaluru city had come to a standstill, and some shops had remained closed.
However, vehicular movement continued as usual in the morning, and the public did not cooperate with the bandh as urged by Sharan Pumpwell.
Following the provocative statements made by Sharan Pumpwell before the media, his followers resorted to stone-pelting on government buses in various parts of the city, creating a tense atmosphere.
They caused damage to public property and incited clashes between two communities, thereby disturbing public peace. Hence, a case has been registered against Sharan Pumpwell under Sections 353(2), 196(1)(B), 49, 324(2)(4)(5), of BNS act.
