Forest department personnel inspect Kallahatti village in HD Kote taluk, where a cow was killed due to a tiger attack on Tuesday.

A cattle was killed in a suspected tiger attack, creating panic among the residents at Kallahatti village in the taluk on Monday night.

The tiger is said to have killed around seven animals in the village since a few days. The wildcat, which was attacking the animals on the outskirts of the village, had entered the village on Monday night.

The Forest Department has decided to begin a search operation using wild elephants from Wednesday.

As the pug marks found were of different sizes, the villagers suspect that there are around three tigers on the prowl.

However, the Forest Department personnel, who visited the village, said it is not clear whether the pug marks are of a tiger or a leopard.

Cameras installed

Speaking to DH, RFO Sharanabasappa confirmed that the attack on the cattle is either by a tiger or a leopard.

The pug marks of both the animals are almost similar and hence, it is not right to decide that it was a tiger. Cameras have been installed to monitor their movement. If it was a tiger, the combing operation will start on Wednesday and attempts are on to bring tamed elephants. There is no need for anxiety, he said.
