Former prime minister and MP H D Deve Gowda said he has been visiting Hasanamba temple from many years for the annual darshan of the goddess Hasanamba and would continue to visit it every year.

Speaking to media persons, after having darshan of the presiding deity of the city Hasanamba here on Friday, he said there is a widespread debate that intolerance is on the rise in the country and hence he prayed to the goddess to give them wisdom (Sadbuddi).

The temple was opened on Thursday and the visit of VIPs the very next day irritated thousands of devotees waiting patiently for hours.

Slogans raised

Deve Gowda, son H D Revanna and their family members performed pujas for more than an hour causing inconvenience to the devotees standing in a queue.

The devotees lost patience and raised slogans against the authorities. The police swung into action, requested the electronic media persons who had gathered inside the temple to come out and brought the situation under control.

However, immediately after Deve Gowda’s family left, former minister and MP Shobha Karandlaje visited the temple. After a while, MP Prakash Hukkeri paid a visit.

Local leaders and dignitaries were also seen visiting the temple. Their visits delayed the entry of the devotees, who had to wait since the break of the dawn in the queue to have darshan of the goddess.
