Honnamma, mother of Vittal Malekudiya, has alleged that the police have taken away Rs 22,000 kept in the cupboard, to help his son’s education.

The money went missing after the police arrested Vittal and took away everything from home.

“Vittal had given me the keys of the cupboard in which he had kept Rs 22,000 which he had saved before leaving for Mangalore University for his higher education. When the police seized the house and took away all our belongings, they have taken the money also. The missing money came to light when my daughter visited me recently,” she said.

“After the arrest of my husband Lingappa and son Vittal, I am alone at home. As my husband is in jail, I find it difficult to eke out for living. I am borrowing loan to purchase grocery. Now, even the shop keepers are thinking twice before lending me the grocery on loan,” she said. “After the arrest of Lingappa and Vittal, I am residing in the house all alone.

I have been residing in Kuthloor for the last 30 years. We have 90 cents land. We grow arecanut and paddy. My husband was working as labourer in few houses to peel the arecanut. As my husband is in jail, we do not have people to take up agriculture activities.

We have not supported the Naxals. We were earning for livelihood with agriculture. Vittal was a hard worker. I want my husband and son to be released,” she said.

“Following Vittal’s arrest, the police have taken away his tooth brush, washing soap, mobilephone and three bedsheets. They had even taken away binocular which we had given him when he was in tenth standard as a play thing,” she recalled.
