Voter numbers increase by two per cent in constituency55,826 persons have enrolled for voter ID cards in March

 Following the voter enrolment drive launched in Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency, a total of 55,826 new voters have enrolled for voter identity cards.

 With the new enrolments, the total number of voters in the constituency has increased by 2.3 per cent, from 24,39,085 voters in the constituency (as of February 11, 2014) to 24,94,911 voters, after the recent drive.

With gender of voters now differentiated as male, female and others, a total of 147 persons have registered under the ‘others’ category. The number of male voters in the constituency is now 12,60,871, while the number of female voters are 12,33,872.During the enrolment drive held from the first week of March, maximum enrolment was recorded in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, where 8,681 voters enroled during the drive. Incidentally, Chamundeshwari has the highest number of voters among all Assembly constituencies under Mysore-Kodagu LS constituency.

City constituencies

Apart from Chamundeshwari, constituencies in Mysore city, Narasimharaja, Krishnaraja and Chamaraja recorded healthy enrolments during the drive. The number of new enrolments are 8,218; 7,151; and 8,395 respectively. A total of 84 persons from three constituencies have enroled under the others category.In Madikeri constituency, 4,160 new enrolments were made; 3,592 in Virajpet; 1,799 in Periyapatna; 1,773 in Hunsur; 3,026 in H D Kote; 2,754 in Nanjangud; 2,908 in Varuna; and 3,396 in T Narsipur Assembly constituency.

Total voters

Considering the K R Nagar Assembly constituency, which is part of Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, the number of voters in Mysore district is 22,67,886. The number of voters in Kodagu district is 4,19,323.

With the new voter list compiled recently, the district administration is yet to compile the list of voters, who will be eligible to exercise their franchise for the fist time in the elections. “The new voter list has come out only on April 4. Once the analysis of the new voter list is completed, we will be able to know the number of new voters, who have completed 18 years after 2009 polls,” said Deputy Commissioner C Shikha.
