Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has dismissed as baseless the allegations made during the current session of the State Legislature that there was corruption in the recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa said the VTU was the only university in the State which had no permanent teaching and non-teaching staff.
The government sanctions teaching and non-teaching posts as per the requirements of the university.
“As per the statutes approved by the Governor and Chancellor of VTU, the university had advertised in leading newspapers in March, that it had openings for various teaching and non-teaching posts. Screening committees and appointment boards were constituted for the recruitment of people for various teaching and non-teaching positions.
The entire process of recruitment such as screening, seminars and interviews was conducted transparently, involving senior academicians across the State,” he said and added that newspaper reports which alleged that “agents are employed in the university to collect bribes from candidates are far from truth.”
Dr D H Rao, principal of Jain Engineering College, has been coordinating the recruitment process in the capacity of Dean, Engineering Faculty of VTU. “Rao is a senior educationist with an international reputation. Others named in the newspapers are sincere employees of the university,” Maheshappa said.
“Corruption allegations against these persons are highly baseless, undesirable and unfair,” he added.
