The staff of the forest department had managed to send the jumbos from the border of Chikkanayakanahalli towards Hiriyur taluk. But the herd returned to Chikkanayakanahalli taluk by night and destroyed banana plantation plantain farms near Melanahalli.

By 5 am on Tuesday, they were seen in front of the house of one Chikkanna at Guruvapura. The frightened inmates  informed the forest department.  The jumbos later went to Sannakatte via Somanahalli and rested there for a while. Later, they were seen at a hillock nearby.

Bukkapatna zonal forest officer and his team kept a watch on the herd throughout the day. Towards dusk, the jumbos travelled to Borakanive reservoir, said forest officer Shivanna.
The movement of the herd  has been a cause for concern among the local people and farmers.
