Patil on Sunday Inaugurating the 25th Kadoli Marathi Literary meet at Kadoli village on the outskirts of Belgaum said the Union government's stand on the Telangana issue was a step forward by the Centre after the reorganisation of the states on linguistic basis. Since the era of Chatrapati Shivaji, Maharashtra had never got its legitimate share and it had to fight for its rights.

"It has been our culture to fight for our rights, and we fought instead of bowing our head in front of others. We would stick to our stand in claiming Marathi speaking areas from Karnataka,” he stated.

The  minister admitted that people from Maharashtra and successive governments in his State had failed in protecting the interests of Marathi speaking people in Karnataka.
He also took on the Union government for taking different stands on linguistic issues in general and of Marathi speaking people in particular.

He also stated that Tulu speaking people from Dakshina  Kannada and Konkani speaking from Karwar should be told to voice their demands instead of conforming to the maps marked by the States Reorganisation Commission.

Union Minister for Law M Veerappa Moily has been advocating the demands of Kannada language, instead he should be doing justice to his mother tongue by advocating the demands of Tulu speaking people, he added.
