Proving all sceptics wrong, the final voting percentage in Bangalore has shown that citizens did exercise their franchise in large numbers.
The final voting percentage, a whopping 57.38, is the highest in the last 19 years. The City had registered a voting percentage of 47.03 in the last elections to the 13th Assembly in 2008. This time, none of the 28 constituencies in the City have a voting percentage below 52 per cent.
The highest polling percentage has been recorded in Basavanagudi with 64.63 percentage, followed by Anekal which polled a good 64.62 per cent. The lowest was recorded in the largest constituency of the State, Bangalore South. The constituency, which covers no less than 50 sq kilometres across seven BBMP wards, had a voter turnout of only 52.38 pc.
In total, as per BBMP records, as many as 40.11 lakh citizens came out to vote on May 5, with 30.26 lakh staying away from the polling booths. The numbers suggest that an additional 8.35 lakh voters came to exercise their franchise, as compared to the 2008 elections.
