Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has described as “unnecessary” his successor Siddaramaiah’s decision to present a fresh budget for 2013-14 in July.

Shettar said that the budget presented by him last February had already been passed by the State Legislature and there was “no need” for another budget. The former chief minister, who was speaking to journalists here on Tuesday, also accused Siddaramaiah of “scuttling” many pro-people schemes announced in the budget. The Congress party did not have any objection “whatsoever” to any proposals mentioned in the budget presented by him then, Shettar asserted. “So, why another budget?” he asked.

Shettar, who was here to attend a meeting to introspect on the BJP’s disastrous performance in the just-concluded elections to the Legislative Assembly, maintained that he had not proposed any new taxes in the budget and spared the common man from any financial burden.
