South interior part of Karnataka continued to receive heavy showers for the second day in a row. According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell (KSNMDC), the spell of showers is expected to continue during the week.
Sources in KSNMDC said that owing to the development of a weather system in Bay of Bengal, widespread rainfall is being recorded in both North Interior and South Interior parts of Karnataka.
On Monday, Mysore city experienced humid weather during the day and a good spell of showers was recorded in the evening, with 22.5 mm of widespread rainfall.
Maximum rainfall in the region was recorded at Hunsur, which received 89 mm of fairly widespread rains. Widespread rainfall was also recorded in parts of KR Nagar taluk (77.5 mm), HD Kote (56 mm) and Periyapatna (43.5 mm). Rainfall was scattered in parts of Nanjangud taluk (27 mm) and T Narsipur taluk (10 mm).
Showers were also widespread in Mandya district, with Nagamangala taluk receiving 76.2 mm of rainfall.
KR Pet taluk received 33 mm of rain, Maddur (22.5 mm), Pandavapura (56.9) and Srirangapatna recorded 58.7 mm of rain. In other parts of the district, rains were scattered in parts of Malavalli taluk which received 30.5 mm rainfall.
Hassan
In Hassan, parts of Arsikere taluk received the heaviest spell of “much-needed” rainfall, KSNMDC sources said. Rainfall of 59 mm was recorded in the taluk during the day. Alur taluk received 24.5 mm rain, Hassan (24 mm), Holenarsipur (36 mm) and Arkalgud received 10 mm of rainfall.
Rainfall was fairly scattered in Chamarajnagar district. Gundlupet taluk recorded 48.5 mm of rain followed by Chamarajanagar (44 mm).
Parts of Kollegal taluk received 42 mm rain, while rains were sparse in Yalandur taluk of the district.
In Sirsi
Areca nut plantation on five acres was inundated after a pond breached in Hegadekatta village of Sirsi taluk in Uttara Kannada district.
Heavy rain lashed the village since 2 pm as a result of which the pond filled to the brim. Several areca trees have fallen to the ground while fertile soil was washed away from the garden.
