The injured identified as Sonia (21) is the daughter of one Lurdunath, a resident of Parandahalli near here. Police said that Sonia with severe burn injuries is being treated at government hospital here. Sonia had married Gopinath after falling in love with him.
However, there were constant fights between husband and wife, police added. Gopinath who suspected her fidelity use to abuse Sonia physically and mentally and asked her immolate herself to prove her fidelity.
Police said that even on Wednesday the husband and wife had fought bitterly and an enraged Gopinath set Sonia on fire. Sub-Inspector Somashekar has registered a case against Gopinath and has remanded him to judicial custody.
