A wild elephant, which always preferred to be in the water in a tank here, breathed its last at Pallakere near the town on Thursday.

The 18-year-old pachyderm is said to have been suffering from ulcer and hence always preferred to be in water to get some relief. In fact, the coffee estate owners had also requested the Forest Department to shift the pachyderm from their estate.

As a result, the officials and the staff from the Forest Department had arrived at the estate with a tamed elephant Abhimanyu and tried to give treatment before shifting the old elephant. However, the pachyderm breathed its last as it was being treated on the banks of the tank, according to the officials.
