A wild elephant was spotted in Hirekaturu village in Kasba hobli of Tarikere taluk on Monday.

The pachyderm was found in a field belonging to a farmer by the name Yellappa.

The villagers alerted the Forest Department officials immediately. The elephant has destroyed an electricity pole.

Forest Department officials said that the elephant might have come from Bhadra Reserve Forest.

The elephant was seen loitering near the village lake till 6 pm on Monday. The villagers are afraid though forest officials opined that the elephant might make its way to the forest after dark.

Range Forest Officers Ravindra Kumar and Chandrashekhar Reddy have visited the spot.
