The wrong policies initiated by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has affected the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in the country, said the BSNL Employees Union Zonal Secretary C K Gundanna.

“To protect the interest of the private telecom operators, the public sector company is being made a scapegoat,” he alleged.

Speaking at the sixth district convention of the BSNL Employees Union here on Saturday, he said that late Pramod Mahajan had completely neglected BSNL when he was the union minister.

Permitting privates

“In spite of the BSNL having a good network, private telecom operators were granted permission to start mobile services in the beginning. The BSNL provides its service in the interior villages even to this day. Inspite of facing challenges from the private operators, the BSNL has given additional Rs 10,000 crore income to the government,” he said.

“The BSNL is not under loss. The profit amount has declined. If the government provides better equipment and staff, the profit will increase further,” he added.

BSNL Employees’ Union Kodagu district unit secretary V J Antony said that with Kodagu receiving heavy rainfall, the equipment get spoiled, often. There is a shortage of towers in the district.

BSNL Employees’ Union Karnataka zone president B P Narayana, vice president B R Kushalappa and others were present.
