Yuva Dasara sub-committee has noted the growing influence of rock music among the younger generation and has decided to provide a forum to young rock bands. As a result, a competition to select the best budding rock bands in the country, has been organised during Dasara this year.

Superintendent of Police and Deputy Special Officer of Yuva Dasara sub-committee, Abhinav Khare said that the competition would provide an opportunity for young bands, as a large number of bands were coming up in colleges around the country.

“To attract a large number of budding rock bands to the competition, the sub-committee has approached about 60 rock bands from Chennai, Mysore and Bangalore. We are expecting a good number of teams, that could perform rock, metal, country and other forms of popular western music,” he said.

Competition

He said that competition will be held for the bands from 9 am to 4 pm at the grounds opposite Maharaja College on September 19 and 20. “After two days, 20 top teams will be selected. The selected teams will perform again on September 21 and three teams will be finalised. The three teams will perform during Yuva Dasara,” he said.
Each team will be provided 20 minutes to perform. The bands should perform a minimum of two songs during the preliminary competition.

Funds

He said that a total of Rs two crores has been sanctioned for Yuva Dasara celebrations by the Dasara Executive Committee. Of the funds, 25 per cent of the amount has already been released to the sub-committee to take up works, ahead of Dasara.
