Summer rain in 2015 has been a mixed bag, with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala receiving good rainfall while the clouds were not as kind on Andhra Pradesh.

Tamil Nadu and Karnataka received excess rainfall of 86 per cent and 48 per cent respectively, while Kerala got 28 per cent excess rain over summer. A latest statistics issued by the regional meteorological centre here said though a few districts of Andhra Pradesh received rainfall, by and large the state saw a rainfall deficit of more than 50 per cent.

The Met office record, taken from March 1 to May 27, further said most of the districts in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka received excess rainfall compared to the same period last year.

A senior official from the Met department said the arrival pre-southwest monsoon and unusual summer rain have helped these three states, which normally receive only moderate rainfall throughout this season.
