The startling revelation by special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam about the assault that took place on September 1 prompted the judges on the bench to ponder over the security of Kasab’s court-appointed lawyers when they would meet him in jail.
Nikam presented a CD showing CCTV footage of the incident to Justices Ranjana Desai and V K Tahilramani. He also opposed a petition filed by Kasab’s lawyer seeking directions to debar jail authorities from being present in the room when they discuss legal issues with the death row convict.
Nikam said it was impossible for police or jail authorities to permit the Pakistani terrorist meet his lawyers in isolation, without the presence of security officials.
The judges said they would view the CD of the reported assault by Kasab and posted the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
