Solo performer P Radhakrishnan had the bitter experience while staging the play, titled 'Pae kalam' (in the time of rabies), at Mayyil in Kannur on Sunday evening.

It was a dog's barking sound played to make the performance more realistic that presented the real life experience to the artist.

Hearing the barking sound a stray dog ventured towards Radhakrishnan and bit him. Radhakrishnan managed to drive away the dog with a stick.

As he went ahead with the performance, most of the spectators felt that the stray dog bite was also part of the play. It was only after the play that he told them that it was a real bite. Subsequently he was taken to the Pariyaram medical college hospital.

It was in the backdrop of the increasing instances of stray dog attacks that 57 year old Radhakrishnan started the performance against stray dog menace.
