While the police registered a case against BJP Kerala president K Surendran in connection with a body shaming remark against CPM women leaders, Surendran tried to defend himself by stating that what he said was only a colloquial usage.

Surendran said at a function at Thrissur on Sunday that women leaders of CPM became fatty-like demoness 'Puthana' by extorting public money.

As the CPM was initially silent on the remark, Congress questioned the silence of the CPM leaders and alleged CPM-BJP nexus. Subsequently, CPM leader C S Sujatha filed a police complaint on Tuesday, based on which a case was registered against Surendran for insulting women.

Meanwhile, Surendran said on Wednesday that the 'Puthana' remark was a colloquial usage only and it could not be considered an anti-women remark.
