Kerala’s biggest festival season peaked on Friday as the state celebrated Thiruvonam with family meet-ups, temple visits, the traditional multi-dish Onam sadya (feast) and the now-customary shopping sessions.

Temples in Thiruvananthapuram city witnessed a rush of devotees since early hours of the day. For many families in the city, the extended festival weekend also meant realisation of long-due travel plans.

The week-long celebrations organised by the state government in multiple venues across Thiruvananthapuram continued to be a big draw for residents of the city. Friday also saw many tourists join in the bustle and have a taste of rush around the harvest festival.

Thousands of devotees thronged the Vamanamoorthy Temple in Thrikkakkara in Ernakulam district, marking the final day of the 10-day celebrations at the temple. The devotees were also treated with a feast at the temple that has celebrated traditions linked with the festival.
