External Affairs Minister S M Krishna is likely to hold a bilateral meeting with his American counterpart Hillary Clinton in New York on October 1.

The crucial bilateral meeting comes after the UPA government allowed injection of foreign capital in airlines and multi-brand retail sectors.

Krishna and Clinton are expected to give a boost to bilateral ties that witnessed a drift over the past several months due to several reasons that included US business community’s
concern over restrictions in investment in several sectors.

Krishna will also address the United Nations General Assembly on October 1. He is expected to focus on issues like terrorism, reforms in the United Nations Security Council, piracy, peacekeeping and the crisis in Syria.

The US has been pushing India to open up key sectors for foreign investment.
