BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden election rally in Odisha, to be held here on February 11, is already facing hurdles as leaders of the state unit of the party have found it difficult to arrange for a proper venue for it.

The BJP state unit, in fact, seems to be heading for a showdown with the Naveen Patnaik administration over one particular venue in the middle of the state capital.

According to BJP leader Bhrugu Buxipatra, a member of the core team in charge of making arrangements for the rally, the party was initially thinking of holding the meeting either at the exhibition ground or Janata Maidan — two regular venues in the city for political meetings. However, that could not happen as both had already been booked for other purposes till February-end.
