An intense cold wave continued to sweep Kashmir on Tuesday as Leh and Kargil towns of Ladakh region recorded season's coldest night at 6.3 and 5.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
A MeT department official said Srinagar recorded an improvement of 3.6 degrees Celsius in the night temperature, with the mercury settling at a low of 3.6 degrees, as compared to previous night's 0.7 degrees.
He said the minimum temperature in the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, the tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir settled at 0.0 and 0.8 degree celsius respectively against previous night's 0.6 and 1.7 degree celsius.
Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 1.6 degree celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of 0.7 degree celsius, the official said.
The rise in temperature has been due to the cloud cover over most parts of Kashmir, which is predicted to bring rain in the next 24– 48 hours.
The predicted rainfall would end the prevalent dry spell in the valley which has given rise to ailments like cough and common cold.
