One militant was killed during an encounter between security forces and ultras in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The encounter was on when the last reports came in.

Sources said on receiving specific information about militants hiding in a house, Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group and the army’s 50 Rashtriya Rifles troops cordoned off the Asthan Mohalla area of Kakapora in Pulwama district, 32 kilometres from here, around 4 pm.

The militants opened fire in an attempt to escape when a search party approached the area. When the security forces retaliated, the ultra was killed.

“The militants hiding in the area fired on the search party triggering an encounter in which one militant was killed. The cordon was strengthened and  searches were stopped overnight. Two more terrorists are believed to be holed up inside a house in the area,” sources said, adding the search operation was suspended by the troops as the night approached. The holed up militants were still firing on the forces at the time of filing this report.  Reports said the entire area has been sealed off and a concertina wire has been erected on all sides of the encounter site, reports added.
