A seven-year-old girl died after being bitten by a snake while she was playing near the house at Dodderi village in the taluk on Friday.
According to police, Aishwarya (7), daughter of Hiriyappa and Mamata, is the deceased. She was bitten by a snake while playing near the house. She died on her way to the hospital in Sagar. Sorab police registered a case.

JD(S) MLC and Kannada film producer S Nagaraj (Sandesh Nagaraju) on Friday said he will join the BJP. “I have not been in touch with the JD(S) for the last one-and-half years, but I’m a JD(S) legislator (MLC) till January 5, 2022, there is no doubt about it. What’s next.. let’s see what Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and senior leader B S Yediyurappa decide,” Nagaraj said. Speaking to reporters at the state BJP office here, he said, “I will come to BJP, there is no doubt about it...Bommai and Yediyurappa have to decide and accept me.” Nagaraj is a two time MLC.

Principals of colleges that have kept the cut-offs at 100 per cent on Friday said the perfect score is a precautionary measure to avoid over-admissions.
Delhi University on Friday announced its first cut-off list for undergraduate admissions with prominent colleges pegging the cut-offs at 100 per cent for various courses.
Among the colleges that have declared 100 per cent cut-off are Shri Ram College for Commerce (SRCC) for BA (Hons) Economics and BCom Honours, Hindu College and Ramjas College for Political Science Honours, SGTB Khalsa College for BCom, Hansraj College, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies and Deen Dayal Upadhyay College for BSc(Hons) Computer Science and Jesus and Mary College for BA(Hons) Psychology and Ramjas College for a combination of BA programme.

As many as 29,51,157 Covid-19 vaccine doses, highest since the inoculation drive began, were administered in Mumbai in September, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Friday. A total of 1,23,11,541 vaccine doses have been given in the country's financial capital since January 16 this year when the nationwide campaign began, it added.

The US Supreme Court says Justice Brett Kavanaugh has tested positive for Covi-19.
The high court said in a press release Friday that Kavanaugh has no symptoms and has been fully vaccinated since January.

The Bombay High Court on Friday issued a summons to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya, asking him to appear either in person or through lawyers on December 23 in a defamation suit filed against him by Maharashtra minister Anil Parab. Parab filed the suit last month, alleging that Somaiya was making “malicious, malafide and defamatory” statements against him with regard to the construction of a resort at Dapoli. The Shiv Sena leader who is the state transport minister sought Rs 100 crore in damages from Somaiya, a former MP.

A fire in a Romanian hospital on Friday has left nine coronavirus patients dead, rescue services said, in the latest blaze in the EU member known for its dilapidated infrastructure.
Flames engulfed the intensive care unit at a hospital in Constanta on the shore of the Black Sea with nine people confirmed dead, rescue services said in a statement.
Some 100 people had to be evacuated, services spokesman Razvan Parconie told AFP.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, Health Minister Attila Cseke said, adding that an investigation had been opened.

The Delhi government has offered free bus ride to senior citizens on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons on Friday.
According to the Social Welfare Department, 4,32,961 senior citizens get financial aid of up to Rs 2,500 under the Financial Assistance Scheme of the city government.
Women in the capital avail free rides in state-run buses under a scheme launched by the government last year.

Five members of a mountaineering expedition team of the Indian Navy went missing on Friday following an avalanche at Mt Trishul in the western Kumaun region of Uttarakhand.
Navy officials said a multi-agency team has been deployed to carry out search and rescue operations for the mission personnel.
The 20-member expedition was flagged off at Mumbai on September 3 and 10 climbers had started the final leg of their journey to the summit this morning but were caught in the avalanche, they said.
“While five of the 10 climbers are safe, search and rescue operations for the remaining five personnel is in progress in coordination with the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF),” Navy Spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said.

The Anti Narcotics Task Force of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Thursday that it foiled a bid to smuggle cannabis from Kashmir to Punjab with the seizure of 18 kg of the contraband and arrest of two smugglers.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the task force intercepted a Punjab-bound vehicle on the highway here, officials said.
During a search of the vehicle, the team recovered 18 kg of cannabis. (PTI)
