Maharashtra: Man stabbed to death over petty dispute; two held

A 25-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by two persons over a petty dispute at a village in Kalyan taluka of Maharashtra's Thane district, police said on Saturday. The Thane district rural police have arrested brothers Sandeep and Deepak Damle for allegedly stabbing Anil Dudhale at Mharal village on Friday evening, the station house officer of the Kalyan taluka police station said. Over 72 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses provided to states, UTs so far: Govt

More than 72 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories so far, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.

The doses were provided through the government of India (free of cost channel) and through the direct state procurement category, it added.

The ministry said over 5.75 crore (5,75,43,795) balance and unutilised Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered. (PTI)

Visva-Bharati tells HoD to keep rustication order in abeyance

Visva-Bharati University authorities have notified two expelled students that the rustication orders issued against them on August 23 was not being implemented now in adherence to the recent order of Calcutta High Court.

Major fire at Kolkata godown, 20 engines deployed

A major fire broke out at a godown in South Kolkata's Taratolla area on Saturday morning, officials said. Twenty fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames, first spotted around 10 am, they said. There was no immediate report of casualty or anyone being trapped inside the storage facility, the fire brigade officials said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and will be found out once it is brought under control, they added. (PTI)

UP: Man killed in road accident, boy drowns in pond

A man was killed and his friend critically injured when their motorbike got hit by a speeding vehicle on the Delhi-Haridwar National Highway here, police said on Saturday.

Police said the incident took place on Friday evening near Nawala village here when the two men -- Vipul Kumar and Rahul -- were travelling on their bike to Haridwar from Ghaziabad.

Vipul died on the spot while Rahul has been admitted to hospital with critical injuries, they said. (PTI)

Eight people were killed by an explosion and fire Saturday caused by a leak from a liquefied gas cylinder in an apartment building in northeastern China, a state news agency reported.

Five others were hospitalised with injuries after the predawn fire in the coastal city of Dalian, the Xinhua News Agency said. It said the cause was under investigation.

Twitch sues unnamed pair linked to 'hate raids'

Twitch is suing two users in US federal court, accusing them of orchestrating 'hate raids' spewing abuse at video game play streamers who are not white or straight.

The Amazon-owned platform is seeking unspecified cash damages from the pair, identified in the lawsuit as a Netherlands resident behind the account CruzzControl and a Vienna resident with a CreatineOverdose account.

In about August of this year, CruzzControl and CreatineOverdose "began coordinating attacks on Twitch's streamers by raiding their channels and spamming those communities with hate," Twitch said in the lawsuit filed Thursday in San Francisco. (AFP)
