Germany says 300 tonnes of dead fish pulled from Oder

At least 300 tonnes of dead fish have been recovered from the Oder river that runs through Poland and Germany since fears were raised of a chemical spill there in July, according to the German environment ministry.

"We are currently experiencing an environmental disaster that will damage this valuable ecosystem for a long time," German Environment Minister Steffi Lemke told news website The Pioneer on Thursday.

Nepal's suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has been summoned to appear before a House Committee next week to furnish clarifications on the allegations made against him in an impeachment motion, officials said.

A total of 98 lawmakers belonging to the ruling coalition Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre and CPN-Unified Socialist had registered the motion of impeachment against Rana in February with 21 different charges.

The Impeachment Recommendation Committee on Wednesday decided to summon Rana on August 31, officials said.

Gang-rape victim ends life in UP's Sambhal over 'pressure' to settle case

A 16-year-old gang-rape victim allegedly hanged herself to death at her house allegedly after families of the accused "pressurised" her for a settlement.

The girl took the extreme step in a village under Sambhal's Kudhfatehgarh police station area and her body has been sent for post-mortem.

One of the accused, identified as Viresh, has been arrested.

FIRs were also registered against the three other accused, namely, Jinesh, Suvendra and Bipin. They are absconding. - IANS.
