A passenger train today collided with a concrete mixer truck at an unmanned level crossing in Punjab's Fazilka, killing the locomotive driver, officials said.

The accident occurred at 10:15 am when the Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train, going to Fazilka from Ferozpur, collided with the stone chips laden truck near Laduka, Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said.

"The accident took place at unmanned level crossing number C-64. The driver of the truck did not follow the Motor Vehicles Act. Train driver Vikas Kumar was killed in the accident. No passenger was injured," Northern Railways spokesperson Neeraj Sharma said.

Officials said the train driver tried his best to stop it by applying the emergency brakes but failed to do so in time.

A case has been registered against the truck driver who is absconding, the police said.
