Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Thursday accepted resignations of five Lok Sabha members of the YSR Congress Party who had quit over denial of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

The five members – Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, Y V Subba Reddy, V Varaprasada Rao, Midhun Reddy and Y S Avinash Reddy – had submitted their resignations on April 6 – the last day of the Budget Session which washed away mainly due to protests over the special status and Cauvery water sharing issues.

Mahajan had called the five members twice on May 29 and June 6 and asked them to reconsider their decision.
