Maha polls: I-T department seizes Rs 4 cr in Mumbai

Maintaining a hawk-eyed vigil against unaccounted cash during the Maharashtra Assembly polls, the Income Tax department has seized Rs 4 crore in the poll-bound state.

Director-General of Income Tax (Investigation) Nitin Gupta said that strict vigil is being maintained to check the possible use of black money.

He said that illegal cash worth Rs 4 crore has been seized by the department since October 21, the day when the Model Code of Conduct was declared in the state.

Elaborating on the steps taken by the department, Gupta told media that Principal Director of Income Tax-1, (Investigation Wing), Mumbai, Anand Kumar has been designated as the Nodal Officer for the department for the whole of Maharashtra.

He said that the department is working in close coordination with several law enforcement agencies and other government departments so that the polls are conducted in a free, fair and smooth manner.
