Mumbai: Ganeshotsav been declared as Maharashtra’s state festival and will be promoted across India and the globe, the government said.
“The Maharashtra government will remain committed to the scope, culture and promotion of this Ganeshotsav in the country and in the world,” state Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar said on Thursday.
The public celebrations of Ganeshotsav was inspired by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1893 when Shree Kasba Ganpati Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal at Kasba Peth area of Pune and Shree Sarvajanik Ganeshutsav Sanstha at Keshavji Naik Chawl at Khadilkar Road in Girgaum in Mumbai, held the celebrations.
Thereafter it spread to other parts of Mumbai and Pune and elsewhere.
