<p>Mumbai: Mumbai's iconic Carnac Bridge—which was rebuilt after demolition—has been renamed after Operation Sindoor in view of Indian armed forces' success during the mission.</p><p>“The Carnac Bridge would now be known as Sindoor Bridge,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said after inaugurating the bridge on Thursday.</p> .<p>Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar has written to BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to rename the bridge after Operation Sindoor, which the civic body immediately accepted.</p><p>This is the first infrastructure project in India which has been named after Operation Sindoor. </p><p>The operation was undertaken to avenge the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.</p><p>Located near Masjid Bunder railway station, Sindoor Flyover connects P D’Mello Road to the bustling commercial hubs of Crawford Market, Kalbadevi and Mohammad Ali Road. </p> .<p>It was taken up by the BMC after the 150-year-old Carnac Bridge was declared unsafe and dismantled by Central Railway in August 2022.</p><p>The bridge spans 328 meters, incorporating 70 meters within railway premises and 230 meters of approach roads, with construction using two steel girders, each weighing 550 metric tonnes.</p><p>“In the Amrit Mahotsav year of independence, it was imperative to close the chapters of dark history, to erase the marks of the past, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said. </p><p>"The renaming of Carnac Bridge was part of this vision. After the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor, crossing into Pakistan to destroy terror camps. This demonstrated that India could strike terror havens in Pakistan. Due to this unparalleled military achievement, the municipal corporation chose to rename the bridge to Sindoor Bridge,” Fadnavis said.</p> .<p>Minister for Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Annasaheb Patil Economic Development Corporation Chairman Narendra Patil, MLC Manisha Kayande, former MLA Raj Purohit, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Additional Commissioner Abhijit Bangar, along with other senior officials were also present for the inauguration.</p>
