Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Friday significantly beefed up security in and around the metropolitan city after a threat call that said 34 'human bombs' have been planted in vehicles in the city on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of immersion of Ganesh idols marking the end of 11-day-long Ganeshotsav.
The call was received on the WhatsApp helpline number of Mumbai Traffic Police.
The organisation, claiming to be called 'Lashkar-e-Jihadi', says that 14 Pakistani terrorists have entered India.
The caller claimed that 34 cars carrying human bombs will be used to detonate 400 kgs of RDX killing one crore people.
Security besides Mumbai was also enhanced in the neighbouring districts of Palghar, Thane and Raigad.
In Mumbai, the local police stations are maintaining vigil while the Crime Branch-CID and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and launched a probe to get to the source of the call.
Ganeshotsav, the biggest festival of Maharashtra, has been declared as Rajya Mahotsav or state festival form 2025.
On Saturday, lakhs of idols of Lord Ganesh will be immersed in the Arabian Sea, rivers and water bodies across Maharashtra.
