A watchman in a residential complex here was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly injuring a stray dog.

Chandram, the 30-year-old guard at a complex in Sainikpuri colony had allegedly thrown stones and beat a street dog with a stick, thus breaking its leg, after the residents complained of their sleep being disturbed by the canine’s midnight howls.

However, plight of the dog evoked sympathy in Sheikh Sha, an animal lover from the complex. He subsequently approached PETA (People for the ethical treatment to animals).
Along with PETA, Sha filed a complaint with the Kushaiguda police station. Chandram was charged under the section 11(o) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Sub-inspector Rajasekhar said: “When produced in local court magistrate refused bail to him and hence he has been remanded to judicial custody till the case will be taken up for trail on Monday.”
