A man shot his lover dead inside a crowded restaurant in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut town following an argument over shopping.

Police sources here said that the man, identified as Anupam Goyal, who owned a fair price shop in the town, was having dinner with the woman, a divorcee, on Friday when they had an argument allegedly over her shopping spree.

Goyal suddenly took out a pistol from his pocket and fired several shots at the woman, who tried to duck initially and then ran for safety. The entire incident was caught on the CCTV cameras installed in the restaurant.

The footage revealed that Goyal followed the woman, who had been hit by bullets, and was seen hitting on her head with the butt of the pistol.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries a little later. The other diners managed to nab Goyal, who was later handed over to the police, sources said.

Goyal, who was in his late 40s and was married, told the cops that he had been having an affair with the woman, who was half his age, for the past two years and had showered her with gifts and money. He also claimed that he had married the woman at a temple.
