Manmohan Singh was Saturday glued to television channels at his official residence here as the 2009 Lok Sabha election results poured in, a party leader said here.

Congress general secretary Prithvi Raj Chavan said that the prime minister was watching television in the morning and was concerned about the poll outcome.

"Given the current economic situation, Manmohan Singh was extremely concerned about formation of a stable government," he told reporters.

He said that in the next 2-3 days, a meeting of the cabinet will be called.

The Congress party will have its own meeting and the Congress President Sonia Gandhi will nominate leaders of both the houses in parliament before formally approaching the president for the formation of the new government.

Chavan added that the Congress will also be looking for 10-12 independents in the new government.
On the Samajwadi Party joining the new government, Chavan said that the decision will be taken by the Congress president and other senior leaders in the next couple of days.
