Maoists fire at voters during Jharkhand panchayat polls

Maoists fired at voters in West Singhbhum district during the third phase of the panchayat elections on Monday.

The Maoists opened fire in Parangir village under Bandhgaon block, but fled after the police and para-military forces retaliated, West Singhbhum Police Superintendent of A K Singh said.

There were no casualties and the polling was going on smoothly, he said.

The panchayat elections are being held after a gap of 32 years. The earlier two phases were peaceful.
