BSP supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of trying to "divert" attention from his "failures" by taking bath at 'sangam' and washing the feat of sanitary workers.

Mayawati, in a series of tweets, said that Modi would not be able to rid himself of his "sins" by bathing at Kumbh.

"Modi's sins of not fulfilling electoral promises, atrocities, demonetisation and GST will not be washed away by the shahi bath at Kumbh," she said.

Akhilesh also taunted Modi regarding the Kumbh bath wondering who would have blessed him (Modi) there as almost all the saints and seers had already left the Kumbh.

"There are no saints and seers at Kumbh now... all of them have already left... who blessed Modi then?" he sought to know.

The SP president also questioned the way Modi took the dip. "I do not know who advised him (Modi) to take the dip wearing an overcoat," he said.

He said that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also taken the holy dip at 'sangam' wearing a different dress.

Akhilesh also attacked the media for allegedly "ignoring" important events like the Kashmir situation, arson in Arunachal Pradesh and others and instead focusing only on Modi visit at Kumbh.

"No coverage of hooch deaths in Assam, arson in Arunachal Pradesh... media busy in singing praise for Modi... fourth pillar is destroyed," Akhilesh in a tweet.
