A mentally-ill retired Army officer allegedly committed suicide by shooting self with his licenced revolver at his residence in Kavinagar area here.
Sanjeev, who had been terminated from the Army a few years ago due to mental illness, was living with his parents at Chiranjivi Vihar of Kavinagar area, police said, adding that his wife also divorced him subsequently.
On Tuesday's afternoon, while looking through his old photographs and stuff from his Army days, Sanjeev suddenly set them on fire. Hearing noise, Sanjeev's father Omkar rushed to the room and tried to prevent him from burning them.
"Sanjeev suddenly opened fire at his father, but he managed to escape from his room. He asked his mother not to enter the room and a few minutes later, he shot himself to death," said a police officer.
Sanjeev suffered bullet injuries on his neck and his body has been sent for postmortem examination, the officer said, adding that further investigations are on.
