The couple was from the backward district of Mahbubnagar and was in search of work. According to sources, Venkatalakshmi (35) along with her husband arrived in a train from Mahbubnagar and started to stay on the platform of Gopalapatnam railway station, a comparatively less known and low density satellite station near Visakhapatnam.

Three men, who were watching the couple eking a living by staying on the platform, took advantage of their vulnerable situation during the wee hours of Thursday and pounced on Venkatalakshmi.

They dragged her to a secluded dark place off the platform and raped her one by one. They also beat up and tied her husband to a pole and gagged him. However, Venkatalakshmi gathered courage and alerted the railway police who succeeded in nabbing two of the accused and registered a case with the Gopalapatnam police station.

The police sent the victim to King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam for medical test and aid. This incident has put a question mark over the security of migrants.
