The body of a 38-year-old man, who was abducted by militants on Thursday night from his home in Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, was recovered on Friday.

A police officer said Mohammad Yaqoob Wagay, a mutton dealer, was found at a site close to his home in Gunda Preng village of Hajin with a slit throat.

“Three to four unknown militants barged inside the house of Wagay and abducted him at around 1 am. The family of the slain man immediately informed the police, who subsequently reached the spot. Yaqoob's body was recovered from near his house,” the officer said and blamed Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives, including local militant Saleem Parrey.

On April 6, militants slit the throat of a 25-year-old youth in the same area. On November 2, a state BJP leader, Gowhar Bhat, was killed by militants who slit his throat in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

On October 18, a school teacher was found dead with a slit throat in the same district, a week after three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces at his house.

The trend, “popularised" by Islamic State group in West Asia, has been prevalent in Kashmir in the last decade, but rare.

Meanwhile, the now-defunct Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen in a statement to a local news gathering agency GNS claimed responsibility for the grenade attacks on a CRPF camp at Safakadal area of Srinagar and a security forces party at Jammu Bus Stand on Thursday evening.

Four people, including three policemen and a civilian, were injured when militants lobbed a grenade at the police vehicle near Jammu Bus Stand around 11 pm on Thursday. The injured include Station House Officer Rajesh Jasrotia, driver Arjun Kumar, Constable Shah Israr and a civilian, Jagdev Raj.
